Art Inspiration…coming soon!
Here’s a fun project we recently did.
Instead of making a straightforward portrait from the photo we decided to do something a bit different.
The aim was to create a more surreal piece, inspired by some of Picasso’s works.
The process was very different to our usual projects. In this case, we started off with a photo and then had Dan (an artist who also posts here) draw out a sketch of how we might alter the layout and background to make more Picasso-esque.
You can see how the sketch is similar in terms of layout…but that’s about it! Click on the sketch to see a larger image.
We added some items in the background that are relevant to the couple in the picture. For example, elements of their different national flags are shown, as are some golf clubs, replacing the original pictures that were in the photo. Naturally, we kept the beer in the picture…!
We also chose a few Picasso paintings that we thought might be of some help to Dan in capturing the right style (the images below are under copyright).
The next step was beginning working on the painting itself. The photos below show the early days, with the very rough first layer of painting being applied.
And finally, the finished piece, hanging on the happy couple’s wall.
For the record, they were absolutely delighted with the painting, and the painting was a real attention grabber at their recent celebration!
Finally…the title of this post is “Art Inspiration…coming soon!”. That’s because we’re going to offer one lucky customer a week a chance to have his or her inspiration turned into a painting…for free.
