The Chinese art scene is a force to be reckoned with

The Chinese art scene is really taking off with the help of Chinese contemporary artists such as Yue MinJun who shattered records for the most expensive work of Chinese contemporary art ever sold “Execution” which brought in $5.9 million…only to be outdone by Cai Guo-Qiang who took the cake with his 14 screens painting, done in gunpowder and ink which brought in an astonishing $9.5 million at a Hong Kong auction last November.

The growth of the Chinese art scene is made evident by this staggering statistic; Sotheby’s auction house in 2004 auctioned off a total of $3 million in Chinese art, a number that in 2007 rose to a very respectable $70 million.

Keep an eye out for the next record breaking Chinese artist!
