Artist Competition Winner
This week’s competition was another tough call, yet finally a winner was chosen. Steven, who is an accomplished artist in his own right, has a remarkable gift for different styles of painting which lends itself well to reproducing by hand and eye an array of paintings from Klimt, Seurat, Gauguin, Dumas and even the very detailed pieces of work by artist such as Bosch. We are delighted that he has been with our company for over 4 years now.
Here is his reproduction of a custom painting in a Seurat pointillist style that I would like to share with you. In brief, pointillism is a term that was first coined by critics in the 1880s. Instead of using the usual common technique of blending different pigments of color the artist uses the four colors CMYK without blending and instead applies each color as a small dot or point to the canvas. The overall effect when standing back from the canvas is a finely tuned soft blended appearance.
Many of the modern machines used by printers use the same technique with an accuracy that gives us a photorealistic quality. The hand painted works by artist such as Seurat and Signac transcend the printed approach with freedom from indistinctness and a certain clarity that I feel our Ocean’s Bridge artist Steven has a talent for. Congratulations for a well deserved win.
