Swiss art theft paintings recovered

Two of the four paintings stolen in last week’s Zurich theft have been found in perfect condition in a car abandoned at a  psychiatric clinic, much to the relief of the museum director Lukas Gloor.

The two recovered paintings - Claude Monet’s “Poppies Near Vetheuil” and Vincent van Gogh’s “Blossoming Chestnut Branches”, valued at $64 million - were stolen in Europe’s biggest ever art heist last week. Two other smaller paintings,  Edgar Degas’s “Count Lepic and His Daughters” and Paul Cezanne’s “Boy in the Red Vest”, the centerpiece of the collection and the most valuable piece of the four pieces, have yet to be recovered.

The parking-lot attendant who spotted the paintings in the car whilst on routine patrol stands to receive a substantial reward.
